Eligibility for Global Korean Scholarship


The Global Korean Scholarship (GKS) is a government-funded scholarship program that aims to attract talented international students to study in South Korea. The program is designed to support undergraduate and graduate-level education, as well as Korean language programs for foreign students. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet certain requirements, which we will outline below.


• Nationality: To apply for the GKS, applicants must be citizens of the countries designated by the Korean government. These countries include ASEAN countries, African countries, Latin American countries, and Commonwealth countries.


• Age: Applicants must be under the age of 40 as of September 1st of the year they apply. However, there are some exceptions for certain programs such as Korean language courses, which do not have age limits.


• Education: For undergraduate programs, applicants must have completed secondary education or its equivalent, while for graduate programs, applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Applicants for Korean language courses must have completed at least one academic semester (or 6 months) of Korean language study.


• GPA: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 80% (out of 100%) or a grade point average of 2.64 (out of 4.0) or higher. or be ranked in the top 20% of one's class.


• Language proficiency: All applicants must have proficiency in either Korean or English. For programs taught in Korean, applicants must have a minimum level of TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) level 3 or higher, while for programs taught in English, applicants must have (not necessary always)* minimum score of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) 80 iBT/550 PBT or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 5.5 or higher.

• Health: Applicants must be in good health, both physically and mentally, to be eligible for the scholarship. Applicants will be required to submit a health certificate issued by a recognized medical institution.


• Personal statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their academic and personal goals, as well as their motivation for applying to the GKS program.


• Study Plan: Applicants are required to submit a study plan outlining their academic and study goals, as well as their motivation for applying to the GKS program.


• Recommendation letters: Applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or academic advisor who can vouch for the applicant's academic ability.


• No prior scholarship recipients: Applicants who have already received a scholarship from the Korean government, including the GKS program, are not eligible to apply.


• No criminal record: Applicants must have no criminal record and must provide a certificate of criminal record from their national police department.


• Other requirements: Some programs may have additional requirements, such as work experience or specific majors. Applicants should check the requirements of the specific program they are interested in applying for.
